Frequently Asked Questions
Wait… didn’t you get married last year?
Yes. And it was awesome. See the “2020 Elopement” page. This celebration will be a renewing of vows for all to see as well as the epic party that we’ve been wanting to have since last year!
The Save the Date said October 22-23. What’s up with that?
We figured that if you’re going to come all the way to the Central Coast, we might as well make it worth your while! We have a full weekend of activities planned, starting with our Welcome Pool Party on Friday. We plan going late into the night on Saturday, so give yourself the gift of recovering with us (or sleeping in) on Sunday. For anyone who wants to come out a day early, we’re going to celebrate Kellen’s 36th birthday on Thursday, October 21 in San Luis Obispo!
Do you require guests be vaccinated for COVID-19?
Yes. For the safety of everyone, we ask that all guests be vaccinated for COVID-19. There are a number of guests with significant risk factors attending, so to minimize risk and for everyone’s peace of mind, we ask that everyone comply. The good news is, we both got our shots earlier this year and we’re not magnetic (yet).
IMPORTANT NOTE ON RAPID TESTS: We know you and we trust you, and we want to minimize the possibility of transmission as much as possible. Any additional steps you can take to be extra careful in the days leading up to the event is appreciated. If you can, we encourage you to do a rapid test before the wedding on Saturday. They are available at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, etc. We recognize that the national supply is low, so we will try to have a few on hand at the hotel as well. More info on these tests can be found in this NYT article.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON GENERAL SAFETY AT THE EVENT: The good news is that the ENTIRE event (except for the afterparty) will be completely outdoors. We are confident that the measures we are taking to keep everyone safe will give you the peace of mind to let your hair down and have fun. Thanks for getting on this ride with us!
OK, but what should I wear?
For the Pool Party, dress for cocktails by the pool deck and be comfortable! The hotel has a California mid-century, desert chic vibe, so maybe rewatch the last couple seasons of Mad Men for inspiration. The pool is heated year-round, so make sure to take a dip!
For the Ceremony and Reception, we’re going with creative cocktail chic. What does that mean? Add some pizzazz to your suits and dresses and have fun! Here are a couple of helpful articles from The Knot and GQ for more ideas.
The most important thing about dressing for California is to wear layers! The afternoon will start warm and then quickly cool off, so make sure you’re preparing yourself to stay comfortable.
Where should I fly into?
Los Alamos is within 50 miles of two regional airports: San Luis Obispo (SBP) and Santa Barbara (SBA). The closest major airport is Los Angeles (LAX), which is about 140 miles away. This is most likely a rental car situation, but trains are also an option. More info on the Travel and Accommodations page.
When should I arrive?
If you would like to join us for Kellen’s birthday party on Thursday, October 21, try to get to SLO around 3pm. Don’t forget to RSVP.
If you are joining us for the pool party on Friday, October 22, it starts at 3pm and goes until 7pm, so plan to arrive at the Skyview in that time frame.
Should I start booking flights and accommodations now?
At this point, yes! We also recommend booking a room at the Skyview ASAP as space is limited.
What about other accommodations?
Check the travel and accommodations page for suggestions on where to stay if you’re not going to be at the Skyview. Our recommendation is to try to snag an Airbnb in Los Alamos or at one of the hotels in Buellton. If you book off property, let us know where you’re staying!
Information on shuttles and transportation forthcoming.
Can we bring our kids?
We love your kids, but this is an adults-only shindig. Treat yourself to a much deserved weekend free from parenthood!
I have more questions!
